On 22–24 June 2026, DISACT researcher Nikandros Ioannidis participated in the Network of European Peace Scientists Conference, held at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.

Nikandros presented his paper, “The Geography of Repression: Territorial Control, Accountability Pressure, and Clandestine Violence,” which examines how armed actors’ territorial control shapes the use of enforced disappearances during civil war. By focusing on the spatial dynamics of repression, the research contributes to a deeper understanding of the conditions under which clandestine violence is employed and how territorial control influences patterns of political violence.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity to present ongoing DISACT research, receive valuable feedback from scholars working in peace and conflict studies, and engage in discussions on current developments in the study of political violence and repression.

DISACT is grateful for the insightful discussions and feedback received during the conference and looks forward to further developing this research.
