From 30 March to 1 April 2026, DISACT team member Alexandros Zachariades participated in the Political Studies Association (PSA) Annual Conference 2026, held in Oxford, United Kingdom.

At the conference, Alexandros presented a paper co-authored with Iosif Kovras (University of Cyprus) and Nikandros Ioannides (Cyprus University of Technology). The paper examined enforced disappearances as a form of concealed violence and explored the factors that shape the adoption of disappearance as a strategy in contexts of conflict and political violence. The study contributes to broader discussions on accountability, state repression, and the dynamics of violence in contemporary conflicts.

The conference brought together scholars from across a wide range of fields within political science, providing an opportunity to share ongoing research, receive feedback from experts in the field, and engage in discussions on current developments in the study of political violence, human rights, and international politics.

Participation in the conference formed part of DISACT’s ongoing efforts to disseminate research findings and contribute to international academic debates on enforced disappearances and their long-term social and political consequences.
